Chosen by P.C. and Kristen Cast

The second installment of this awesome series has even more vampires and excitement to offer than the first. Zoey, having removed Aphrodite from her place of power in the Dark Daughters, has become the new leader. She is also adorned with new tattoos that Nyx, her goddess, has given her to show she is on the right path. However, things are not as good as they seem. Fledglings are dying and somehow...coming back to life. Who is behind this? What can Zoey and her friends do to stop it?

Marked by P.C. and Kristen Cast

This is an excellent story about a young fledgling vampire named Zoey Redbird who meets new friends, and enemies, when she moves to the House of Night in Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, something is different about Zoey than the rest of the fledglings...the cresent moon mark that is on all fledgling and adult vampires is completely filled in, something that shouldn't happen until she becomes an adult. What does this mean? What strange things are happening at the House of Night? All of these questions and more are answered in this amazing series.

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

This is a story that takes place in another demention that is parallel to our own, where people's souls are located on the outside of their bodies, called daemons. These daemons take shape of animals and are unique to the person. A young girl named Lyra goes on a whirlwind adventure with her daemon where they discover secrets about an evil corporation who is run by an evil woman who are bent on taking the magic daemons possess away from children. All in all, it leaves you on the edge of your seat wanting more.

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

This book takes a new turn on the way angels are look at. Patch, a fallen angel, finds unlikely friendship in Nora Gray, who is instantly attracted to him. Together, they go on a mysterious mystery about other fallen angels and murder. I reccomend this to anyone interested in the darker side of literature and delight in the mysterious.

Pretties by Scott Westerfield

In this sequal to Uglies, Tally is transformed into a Pretty, but for very special reasons. However, she can't remember what these reasons are and this causes her and her other friend to get in serious trouble. This continuation of the story has every thing the original has, and more.

Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter

This book is about wild cats that roam the forests outside of civilizations and the story of a house cat who joins them and ultimately earns their respect, and eventually their loyalty. Erin Hunter does an excellent job of capturing the mood of the experiances he faces as he meets the different clans and becomes part of the noblest of all, Thunder Clan. The others are Wind Clan, River Clan, and the devious Shadow Clan. They are the fiends of the forest, except for the humans and other large animals.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

This is an out of this world story that portrays a sort of future earth where everyone is surgically altered to be "pretty" when they turn 16 to reduce war and make everyone equal. However, the main character, Tally, changes her mind about this procedure after meeting a girl who says their is a surviving band of uglies who are living off the land like no one has done for thousands of years. She embarks on a journey to follow her friend and find this village and along the way she discovers many unsettling and scary secrets about her society.

Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes

This novel is an instant classic that belongs on any hopeless romantic woman's bookshelf. The main character, Lucy, is taken to a phycic by her friends who tells her that within the upcoming year, she will be married. Soon Lucy meets a whirlwind Scottish gentlemen, or so it seems, named Gus. However, complications arise and she soon finds herself falling for someone completely inexpected.

Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead

This is a book that is definately not for anyone under the age of 16. It has some "sensual" scenes that are amazingly written, but for the appropraite age group. In this story, a succubus by the name of Georgina Kincaid falls into a deadly adventure with a cute human author by the name of Seth Mortenstein. She must face demons, angels, and even new creatures that no one knows what it could be causing trouble. I recommend this to any girl, or guy, who likes to be left wanting more and sitting on the edge of their seat.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

This is an amazing novel that tells of two middle-aged men who are traveling the country during the Great Depression trying to find work. One of the men, Lenny, is mentally handicapped and the other man, George, has been watching over him since they were young. When the two men finally find work at a ranch, Lenny and George are forced to make hard decisions that will forever alter their lives and those around them. It is an awesome read and offers excitement and tears in every chapter. This novel has also been made into a major motion picture which is worth watching as well.

Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers

This book was actually assighned to me to read in my American Literature class, and I'm glad it was. This novel is a good example of warfare literature while also showing the troubles in the country at the time of WWII. The main character of the story is Richie Perry, a young black american sent to fight in the Vietnam War. There he is faced with violence, rascism, and loss. It is a heartwrenching story that any would benefit from reading it.

The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan

This book is very interesting and somewhat irritating at times. It is the story of a man and a woman and their romance...in the form of a dictionary. Each word would have a little story underneath it instead of the definition. However, in someways, it is the definition for the stories have something to do with the word. I find this novel irritating for the reason that the author never really explains much about the romance, nor why they fight, ect. I prefer to know what's going on in a story and to not be left clueless. On the other hand, it is a very new and interesting way to approach story writing and is worth reading just for the experiance.
